Flora and Fauna of the regions of Althohs
The flora and fauna of Althohs range drastically by region. Regarding flora in Althohs: Central Alunah is quite hilly, and lacks much plant growth. Despite this, the region is still populated by short grasses and the occasional small shrub or bush and dispersed wild flowers. The southern tip is home to a dense forest of pines in the Lowood. There is generally little underbrush in this forested region, and instead houses occasional vines and bushes. The Terg Wetlands, a large region of contested border lines, is home to mangrove-type trees and other flora like lily pads and cattails. The Ardwood spans across the three continents of Alunah, Theig and Trefys, and surrounds the Tristrait. The woods have massive vines and sprawling, winding branches with an extremely thick canopy. The grasslands of Trefys have tall grasses and sporadic, short trees. The Brummwood, just north of the Brumm shelf, is mostly jungle-like in flora composition. The Sylic Desert has very few small shrubs littered very sparingly throughout, with the heaviest concentration being near the wells of the Sand City of Trefys, the Alunan mining city. The islands of Narvor and Seng as well as the Norwood in Nishaira contain pines similar to those found in the Lowood of Alunah. The Novic Desert is extremely dry and has little sand, but occasional water springs surrounded by small trees. The rest of the grasses throughout Novo are lush and short in height. The woods around Luene and the Southern Fold are extremely tall, Sequoia-type red pines, with little to no underbrush. Areas of the Alunir Tundra and The Sickle grow abnormal trees called ghostwood. This wood can be harvested for the blastpowder that grows inside their trunks, but only grow in these icy regions. The wood of the ghostwood is also used by the Lovihr in Luene, thanks to it’s extremely dense nature akin to petrified wood.
Regarding fauna in Althohs: The hilly and mountainous regions of Alunah are home to the great Mountain Vilk, a large, antlered beast similar in size and build to a grizzly bear. Alunans have also grazed Fonlu, a cow-like creature with large, downward curved horns, Yirn, a long-haired deer-like animal, and Tonn, a large and bulky but goat-like animal. In the Rosche Mountains dwell massive birds called Plia that build their nests on the high rocky ledges and have been known to grab Yirn and other small livestock from the Alunir grazing ranges. The forests of Lowood, Norwood, Narvor and Seng are perfect living quarters for treecats, panther-like wildcats that hunt at night, and finar, stag-like creatures. The Ardwood surrounding the Tristrait is inhabited by creatures that enjoy the darkness created by the thick canopy, such as the illusive silkspinners or the or the deadly shadow serpents that lurk beneath the roots and through the strait. The Sylic desert is home to a series of lethal predators including large sandworms and granah, an Andrewsarchus-like beast with large feet for easy maneuverability through the sand dunes. The Brummwood is ripe with rain forest-esque wildlife. The Novic desert is inhabited primarily by large salt crabs, that thrive in the flat and arid region. The Falmun Range is home to a substantial population of Falmun Hawks, who prey on animals in the Norwood and surrounding plains. The Terg Wetlands house hostile razorjaws, essentially crocodiles, and fima, smooth-skinned boar-like beasts. The plains and grassy regions are home to a number of small rodent-like creatures and grazing mynn, elk-like beings, who are preyed on by albasten, a sort of hyena/cheetah mix. In the Lynwood, it’s very common to see wild hallon, vicious lynx-like creatures that also have domesticated counterparts (the Lovihr use them for battle), and snek, a black bear type beast with 3 rows of teeth. The tundra regions in Alunah and Euras are populated by sabertooths and flayuh, arctic birds. The oceans are thus far, predominately filled with freehad, lanu, silversnout and kilma, the latter of which is a porpoise-like mammal with a narwhal type horn of shorter length. Kilma are hunted for these horns, which are used in different ways by both the Favihr and the Lovihr.
